There’s nothing like a soft, crisp breeze of fresh morning air coming in through open windows. While I enjoy fresh air circulating throughout our home, I don’t like being cold. Since I keep our windows closed to stay warm, I came up with a way to freshen the air in our home as I wait patiently for the warmth of Spring to arrive.
To make my own homemade air freshener recipe, I used two ingredients – baking soda and essential oil. The only additional supplies I needed were a clean glass container such as a mason jar, and a spoon to combine it. It only takes a minute to make. I mixed it up and placed a container in every room of our home.
The amount of essential I use for each batch depends upon the size of the room I’m putting it in. Generally, I use 10 drops for small rooms such as bathrooms; I use 16 drops for larger rooms such as the livingroom. You can adjust the amount according to your preference.
I should note that because this recipe uses essential oils, the air freshener should be stored out of the reach of children and pets.
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 10-16 drops essential oil, or as desired
- A sterile glass container such as a mason jar and a lid, optional – If using a lid, be sure to drill a few holes in it first.
- A spoon for stirring – Be sure to use a spoon and container designated specifically for crafting, and not for food use as a safety precaution.
Pour the baking soda into the container.
Add the essential oil.
Stir with a spoon to combine.
Cover the container with a lid, if desired.
Store out of the reach of children and pets.
